Free River

In these ever growing times, we tend to chase after our desired goals, often disregarding the true treasures, our rivers and mother nature. Free River is an augmented reality program that teaches users about the current condition of our rivers and the ecosystem that surrounds it. 

This installation allows the users to have access to the latest news or updates on the ecosystem, such as the current level of water pollution of the river and how many living things that reside in the area are left. 

Malaysia is blessed with a large number of freshwater rivers. However,  According to a Malaysia Environmental Quality Report 2015 issued by the National Resources and Environment Ministry, only seven per cent or 33 rivers from the total 477 rivers nationwide were categorized as polluted. Even more, a number of rivers in the West of Malaysia have been considered “dead”. When a river has a low-level or no dissolved oxygen present would result in a threat to the wildlife in the area. 

Free River not only teaches the users about the effects of pollution to our rivers, but it also teaches us about the ways we could help the problem as well. This installation will provide to the users links to any organization or events that help to clean the rivers.
